Coolmore Classic
The coveted Coolmore Classic is one of the great Group 1 feature thoroughbred races conducted at the picturesque Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney as part of the state’s illustrious Autumn Racing Carnival.
Held in mid to late March each year, the Group 1 Coolmore Classic is the headline race of the day that features a fantastic line-up including six other Group status races. The other big event of the meeting is the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes while punters and spectators are also kept entertained by four Group 2 races such as the Reisling Slipper Trial and the Todman Slipper Trial.

The 2013 Coolmore Classic will be held at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 19 March 2013.
The Coolmore Classic is a great middle distance gallop run over 1500m. It is open to fillies and mares only and is a quality handicap event worth an impressive $600,000 in prize money.
As one of the best feature races for fillies and mares during the autumn carnival, and because the winner of the Coolmore Classic is exempt from ballot for the $1.5million Group 1 Doncaster Handicap, the race is always an intense and thrilling affair.
Coolmore Classic Lead Up Races
There are some truly terrific earlier autumn events that serve as the perfect lead up for the female runners on the Coolmore Classic campaign. The Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) a fortnight earlier is a good preparatory race but the main lead-up race for fillies and mares on the way to the Coolmore Classic is the Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill in February.

Coolmore Classic History
Miss Personality was the inaugural winner of the Coolmore Classic when the race was first run in 1973.
The Coolmore Classic originated as a Principal race, reaching Group 2 status in 1980 before finally being installed as a Group 1 event in 1984.
The race has undergone a number of name changes over the years. While it is registered as the T A D Kennedy Stakes, the race has been known as the Orlando Wines Classic, Rosemount Wines Classic, Winfield Classic, Marlboro Classic, NSW Thoroughbred Breeder’s Stakes, Fillies & Mares Classic and in recent years as the Coolmore Classic.
Many of Australia’s champion females have claimed victory in the Coolmore Classic including multiple Group 1 winner Typhoon Tracy (2009), Tuesday Joy (2007) and Sunline (2002 & 2000).
