Nominations are in for this Saturday’s highly anticipated Coolmore Classic Day at Rosehill Racecourse and the line-up of gallopers across the races is superb.
The headline event of the day is the $600, 000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), which has attracted 23 top-class nominations.
Sure to start as the odds-on favourite on Saturday if she takes to the track is Australia’s highest rated mare Typhoon Tracy, who has been allocated the hefty 61kg top-weight for the 2010 Coolmore Classic.
The brilliant Peter Moody-trained Typhoon Tracy is seeking back-to-back wins in the feature and has displayed sensational form throughout her career winning nine of her 12 race starts, including her impressive two last start Group 1 wins in the Futurity Stakes on February 27 and the C F Orr Stakes on February 6, which made her a four-time Group 1 victor.
Leading Caulfield trainer Moody also has his Reset filly Set For Fame nominated for the Coolmore Classic this year, the Angus Armanasco Stakes winner coming off a last-start runner-up to Rock Classic in the Group 1 Australian Guineas.
If Moody decides against running Typhoon Tracy in the Coolmore Classic because of the huge weight allocated to her, Set For Fame will become his sole chance of securing his second consecutive victory in the race.
Bart Cumming’s dazzling filly Faint Perfume is another star female nominated for the 2010 Coolmore Classic. The three-year-old came into the spotlight last spring when she took out the Wakeful Stake and the Crown Oaks, and further improved her stocks when she claimed a first-up win this autumn in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes a fortnight ago.
The other most notable filly ready for the Coolmore Classic showdown is Gai Waterhouse’s Group 2 Surround Stakes winner More Joyous. More Joyous has been allocated 53kg for Saturday, making her the equal heaviest weighted three-year-old filly with Faint Perfume.
With so many elite females ready to fight it out on the turf, the 2010 Coolmore Classic is shaping up to have one of the best final fields in years.
The 20-horse final field will be announced later in the week and published here.
