2015 Coolmore Classic to Figure for Arabian Gold

December 10th, 2014

Securing several impressive results over the 2014 Australian racing calendar, trainer David Vandyke has revealed talented mare Arabian Gold will return to racing in autumn in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens in March.

Arguably hitting career-best form so far over the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival this year, Arabian Gold charged home to beat a classy field to the line in the featured Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) upon returning to racing in spring, but was unable to match the late pace of Trust In A Gust when beating just one runner home in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) on October 11th, leading to a longer-than-expected stint in the paddock.

Reportedly taking particularly well to her time away from work and racing, Vandyke outlined a path through the 2015 Autumn Carnival for the Dubawi mare beginning with a Coolmore Classic tilt, ahead of a return to Queensland to chase Group 1 success.

“She is fantastic,” Vandyke told Sky Racing HQ.

“She has really matured and done good from that back and I think we are going to see an improved mare when she hits the races.

“I’ll go three trials and then first-up in the Coolmore and then probably go second-up into the Queen Of The Turf then look at the Hollindale and Doomben Cup.

“We had her winning over 1400 after two trials this last preparation and I thought that if I give her an extra trial and we go to the 1500 I believe I can have her spot-on to try and capture her first Group 1 race.

“She has pretty much done everything but win a Group 1 race and we are really chasing that Group 1 win this time around.

“Looking at the way she is now I can see obvious physical improvement in her.

“If we manage things correctly and we have some luck this will be our season for her.”

Finishing eleventh in the Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1400m) in March this year, Arabian Gold secured three impressive victories in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (200m), Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (300m) and Group 2 The Roses (2000m) in succession before finishing an agonizingly-close second to Tinto in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) on May 31st.
