2015 Coolmore Classic Final Field and Barrier Draw

March 11th, 2015

13 talented fillies and mares have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s featured Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens, highlighted by the confirmation of several previous winners at the highest level of racing.

Unlucky to finish second to renowned mare Catkins in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) last time out, trainer Peter Moody has confirmed Plucky Belle in the 2015 Coolmore Classic final field.

Posting four wins and a further seven minor place finishes over her 24 start career so-far, Plucky Belle secured several impressive results over the 2014 edition of the Autumn Carnival, and was unlucky to finish second when blocked for a run in each of the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m) most notably.

Running sixth in the Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) in her only 2015 start prior to the Millie Fox Stakes, Plucky Belle will leave from barrier 8 in the 2015 Coolmore Classic and has been charged with carrying just 53kgs.

Group 1 winner Dear Demi returned to racing for fifth in the Group 3 Guy Walter Stakes (1300m) a fortnight ago, and has been charged with carrying a race-high 58kgs in the 2015 Coolmore Classic.

Securing a commendable race record of five wins and a further 12 minor place finishes through her 36 competitive starts so far, Dear Demi returned to racing in competitive form during the 2014 Spring Carnival; running fifth in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) and second in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) on September 26th.

Placing seventh in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) before injury forced a premature end to her campaign, trainer Clarry Conners has been pleased with the work completed by the Dehere mare in recent weeks and is confident of a competitive performance on Saturday.

Three-year-olds First Seal and Amicus broke through for maiden victories at the highest level during the 2014 Spring Carnival, and will be hard to beat in the 2015 Coolmore Classic at the weights.

Finishing outside the places just once in her eight start career so far, First Seal was unlucky to be blocked for a run and fourth in the Drummond Gold Plate (1250m) on debut, but responded in the best way possible when taking out the Daily Press Group Plate (1100m) in her next competitive appearance.

Finishing second to Sweynesse in a Rosehill Gardens minor over 1400m on August 30th, the Fastnet Rock filly stamped her claims as a serious racehorse when taking out each of the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) back-to-back.

Returning to the paddock after finishing second in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m), First Seal finished second in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) first-up this time and will carry winning form into the Coolmore Classic after taking out the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) two weeks ago.

Steadily building to the task over spring, Amicus ran in the minor in a pair of minor events; placing second in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) before taking out the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 11th.

Having quickly found her feet over two black type starts this time in, the daughter of Fastnet Rock will leave from the ideal barrier 2 and will carry just 52kgs in the 2015 Coolmore Classic.
