Trainer Rex Lipp has revealed results of Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens will dictate the overall autumn path for talented Queensland raider Tinto.
Posting a commendable race record of three wins and as many minor place finishes over her eighteen start career so far, Tinto returned to racing from a brief freshen up in the Group 3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on February 28th, and while clearly in need of the competitive hit-out, managed a credible sixth.
Confident his stable star will find the 2015 Coolmore Classic in great condition, Lipp told Racing Ahead her performance while decide on which of the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m), Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) or Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) will figure as her major target this season.
“She is not a brilliant beginner and you couldn’t go to the fence and if you went wide you had no hope,” Lipp said of Tinto’s first-up run.
“She tracked them into the race, had a bit of a checkered run and she if she got a better run she probably finishes a lot closer.
“I haven’t done a lot with her since then because I am mindful that it might make her a little bit dour.
“She has done very well down here and she will only have gallop this week, I will gallop her tomorrow morning and that will be the only gallop.
“Her work has been good and everything has been going straight ahead with her and everything is on track.
“We have accepted in the Doncaster, we have accepted in the Queen Elizabeth and in the Queen Of The Turf.
“After Saturday we will sit down and work out a plan on which way we go and we have left our options open with her.
“Whether she gets a run in the Doncaster and those type of races remains to be seen and if we don’t get in either of those two we will probably go to the Queen Of The Turf.”
Tinto returned to racing in exceptional form over the 2014 autumn and winter; taking out the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) and placing second to Arabian Gold in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) before breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m).
Returning for a brief summer campaign, the daughter of Red Dazzler ran second to short course specialist Brook Road in the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) first-up on November 29th; progressing to third in the Listed Just Now Handicap (1350m) and back-to-back victories in the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1625m) and Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m).
A final field and barrier draw for the 2015 Coolmore Classic is due to be completed and released today (Wednesday, March 11th).
