13 fillies and mares have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Having returned to racing in typically impressive form this time, three-year-old First Seal ($1.85) has maintained clear favouritism in 2015 Coolmore Classic betting markets ahead of Plucky Belle ($9.50), Thump and Mahara; currently sharing the fourth line at a quote of $13 for success with Ladbrokes.com.au.
Will First Seal justify favouritism and win the 2015 Coolmore Classic, or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Mahara has contested an ideal lead-in to the 2015 Coolmore Classic, has drawn favourably and has been charged with carrying only 52kgs, and as a result undoubtedly offers punters the best value for money at current $13 odds. Posting a commendable race record of five wins and a further three minor place finishes from her 13 competitive starts so far, Mahara found exceptional form for Peter and Paul Snowden over spring, ending her campaign with back-to-back wins in the Tattersalls Club Handicap (1400m) and Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m). Having placed fifth in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) first-up this time and third in the Group 3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) last time out, all signs point towards a return to the winner’s circle on Saturday.
First Seal ($1.85)
First Seal has finished outside the top three only once through her eight start career so far, and while drawn in the wide and awkward barrier 11, is sure to figure in competitive position in the 2015 Coolmore Classic. Ending her spring tenure with wins in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) before finishing second to Hampton Court in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m), the daughter of Fastnet Rock returned for a close second in the talent-rich Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) before jogging home to win the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) with ease last time out. Punters may find value in adding First Seal as a selection in a Coolmore Classic quinella or trifecta bet.
Plucky Belle ($9.50)
While unable to reach peak condition over the 2014 Spring Carnival, Plucky Belle is a proven autumn performer and has returned to racing in great condition this time, and as a result is more than worth consideration for a 2015 Coolmore Classic bet. Securing four race wins and seven minor place finishes from her 24 career starts, the Mossman mare was unlucky to be blocked for a run late in the Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) first-up, but almost responded in the best was possible when finishing an agonizingly-close second to Catkins in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) last time out.
