Trainer Mick Price was thrilled with the form displayed and results posted by Secret Agenda through the recent Spring Carnival and is hopeful the weather during the upcoming 2016 Autumn Carnival in Sydney will offer the filly an opportunity to contest a race like the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) in late March.
Secret Agenda immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow when debuting to racing for a comfortable win in the CRT Whites Wires Stockpost Plate (1000m) in December last year, but failed to make anything of an impact when returning in autumn for eleventh in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude F (1100m) and was immediately returned to the paddock.
Returning to spring an winning form in the Grand Hotel Frankston Handicap (1200m) on September 2nd, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt ran a close second in each of the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) before snaring a maiden black type win in heavy going in the Group 3 Gucci Stakes (1100m) last time out on November 5th.
Secret Agenda is yet to contest an even over 1200m, but the likelihood of rain during the Sydney Autumn Carnival and a light weight as a three-year-old underlines a race like the 2016 Coolmore Classic as a serious prospect.
“She is a superb wet-tracker and obviously won a Group 3 race doing that,” Price told Racing.com.
“If we can get into the Sydney Autumn on a wet track and find the right race for her, she’ll be fine.
“She went out at the right time, had a nice preparation and has done very well. So Sydney, wet track, away we go.”
Three-year-olds have a reasonably good record in the Coolmore Classic, and First Seal was unlucky to finish an agonizingly-close second to Plucky Belle in the 2015 edition of the race for fillies and mares.
Price is yet to settle on a specific path for Secret Agenda through the 2016 Autumn Carnival, but the filly will likely kick off her preparation in Victoria, in a race like the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley in February.
